Important names are linked to the Grand Tour such as Winkelmann who elaborated his theory on Greek art right here; Giovanni Battista Piranesi who made the archaeological area the subject of superb engravings and Johann Wolfgang Goethe who believed he recognized the perfection of classical art in the Doric temples of Pesta.
