Cascata a fine percorso - Oasi WWF Valle della Caccia

WWF Oasis Valle della Caccia: a green oasis for the whole family

A remarkable nature experience. Everything here was created by nature, and everything is perfect. Unspoilt. Water, the great resource of this place, has shaped the surroundings with its movement, creating rapids, channels, streams, small ponds and plays of light.
The caves, the moss-covered walls and the big waterfall at the end of the walking trail are impressive.
The Oasis is a fascinating place, where everything has been protected and preserved from the hand of man, and where you can drink freely from the stream and recharge in the shade of the beech trees, watching the light flight of bees and butterflies.

The WWF Oasis Valle della Caccia is a splendid nature reserve located near Senerchia, a small town in the province of Avellino.

It was established in 1992 and is now part of the Monte Polveracchio nature oasis and of the Monti Picentini Regional Park.  Located precisely in the Alta Valle del Sele, the natural area is an SPA (Special Protection Area). It is mainly mountainous and covers an area of 450 hectares.

The flora of the Valle della Caccia is very varied: rare plants such as Erica terminalis and Acer lobelii characterise the vegetation of the foothills, while birches and the beautiful black pine cover the mountain area.

Like the vegetation, the fauna is also particularly varied. The welcoming oasis is home to numerous mammals (wild boar, wolves, weasels, foxes, stone martens, dormice etc.), birds (kestrels, hoopoes, nightingales, tawny pipits, wood pigeons etc.) and reptiles (western whip snakes, four-lined snakes, green lizards etc.). A very rare creature also lives in the oasis: the fire salamander.

The beautiful Acque Bianche trail, which runs alongside the small stream of the same name, is very well known. The stream has a limestone bed, which makes it clear and bright. Along the trail there are a number of information panels that help you recognise the plant species (oaks, beeches, ash trees etc.). The Acque Bianche trail ends at an evocative waterfall with a drop of about 30 metres.

You can reach the oasis from the village of Senerchia via the trail  called “l’affacciata” (about 2 km long).

The WWF manages the oasis in agreement with the Municipality of Senerchia.  The visitor centre is in the village’s historic centre, in the same building as the Museo del Lupo (Wolf Museum). The Oasis is also open to groups and school parties every day (booking required).

The Valle della Caccia is definitely the ideal choice for everyone, young and old, who wants an adventure immersed in nature.
